"Part of a series of dryads, or tree spirits. The Dryad of Kinship began one Winter when my husband and I were hiking. I came across a tree covered in turkey tail, and all I could think was, "That would make such a beautiful dress!" I took some shots and drew a sketch when I got home, saving the project for warmer weather to complete it. The Dryad of Kinship is my favorite of the dryad series. It is a gentle reminder of the family we too often forget ~ the one right outside the window." Elisabeth Ladwig

"Dryad of Kinship" features a surreal scenario where a young girl with long, flowing blonde hair is embracing a large tree. The girl's dress is an organic extension of the tree itself, as it transitions seamlessly from her back into a cascade of turkey tail fungi, which grows abundantly down the trunk of the tree, resembling the layers of a ruffled gown. The setting is a desolate, open field with a dreary sky overhead, creating an atmosphere of quiet isolation. There are dark clouds that seem to press down on the landscape. The tree's bareness, along with the absence of leaves, contributes to the overall somber and mystical mood of the piece.
